Our Architectural Services
Three things a client needs from an architect:
1. Imagination:
Design flair, the ability to think in 3-dimensions, the ability to imagine inspired solutions, the ability to communicate those ideas through words, drawings, models and images.
Take a look through the images on our website, or give us a call to find out more. Our office is full of drawings, models and photographs and we may be able to arrange for you to visit some of our previous projects.
2. Technical Competence
You want your building to keep the weather at bay, to need little maintenance but be easy to maintain when needed, to meet the requirements of all users of all abilities, to use resources sparingly during construction and require little energy to run it when complete. You need the building to work with planning legislation and building regulations, to conform to current best practice in all respects and to stay looking good for years to come.
Our team of architects and technologists is highly trained, highly experienced and we keep our knowledge-base up to date with a programme of continual professional development, an in-house quality assurance scheme and subscriptions to a number of continually updated architectural data systems.
3. Management skills
You want the construction stage of your project carefully managed, carried out with the minimum of fuss, safely, on time and on budget so that the finished building exceeds all your aspirations.
Project management is an art as much as a science. Striking the right balance between time, cost and quality is a skill that comes with experience, and we've got plenty of that! We aim to make all the projects we manage finish on time, on budget and meet pre-agreed quality standards. We aim to save our clients more than the cost of our fee. Here's
what we can offer:
EKJN Domestic:
We offer 3 levels of service to our domestic clients. 'Bronze' is a stripped-down service for simple domestic projects, a cheap and cheerful way to achieve local authority approvals. 'Silver' suits projects where there's a bit more complexity involved and some of the beautiful interiors on our projects page have been achieved by clients using our silver service. 'Silver' doesn't suit everyone, though, particularly those clients who have no previous experience of managing a construction project, so the 'Gold' service is for projects where a full architectural involvement is needed including innovative design, approvals, cost-monitoring and full project-management during construction including Architect certification. You choose!
The first consultation is free so get in touch and let us know what you've got in mind.
EKJN Historic/Conservation:
We are RIAS Accredited Conservation Architects with many years experience of working on Scotland's historic buildings. Our current project to rehabilitate the Grade A listed Panmure House in Edinburgh is involving us in stone repairs, lime plasterwork, historic timber paneling, period detailing on windows and ironmongery, lime harling, roof slate repairs, conservation of historic timbers and much more. Other projects include the rehabilitation of Duntarvie Castle, the creation of the Edinburgh Weaving Centre in the disused Victorian reservoir on the Royal Mile, church building repairs in Alloa, Kirkliston and Bathgate, rehabilitation of a disused sawmill in Lanark, Easter Inch Steadings in Bathgate and stonework conservation work on buildings across the Highlands.
