Cauther Ha', West Calder
Extension and Alteration of an Existing Dwelling to Create Additional Living Space.
This bright and welcoming addition to a house in West Calder provides a double-height South-facing Sun Room, including an internal mezzanine and double doors leading out to an external decking area.
A bespoke timber staircase leads up to the mezzanine level with glass balustrade which gives views out over the West Lothian countryside through the full-height South-facing glazing.
Exposed oak beams and columns and Siberian Larch detailing to the new gable support a rural aesthetic, and an oak flitch-post colonnade creates a covered route to the front entrance.
The design focuses on sustainability with high-performance glazing, Velux rooflights and PV panels to help supply power to the house.
This project was nominated for the AJ Small Projects Award in 2018.
