Cathlawhill Farm, Torphichen
Extensions and Alterations to Existing Rural Farmhouse

Glu-lam timber portals, Scottish and Siberian larch weatherboards and high-performance composite windows are used to good effect at this overhaul of an existing farmhouse near Linlithgow.

A ground source heat pump feeds the underfloor heating, and a 34 meter high wind turbine on the site provides power. The extension provides exemplary levels of insulation by using insulated concrete formwork walls and pre-insulated floor units.

The project was completed in 2018 and was nominated for Edinburgh Architectural Association's Wood Award in 2018.
